Overview

"Art should interest, fascinate, inspire, motivate, perhaps amuse and, in the best case, make you question the way you look at it." Pascal Kehl

"Photography was and remains an important and constant interest in the life of Pascal Kehl. Since childhood photography has been an important part of his life thus influencing the way in which he sees the world. The focusing through a lens to find details within the larger picture helped him to recapture and understand the relation of things. This helped him to become aware of the beauty in the alleged unattractive. Having taken countless number of photographs throughout his life (analog and digital) Pascal Kehl felt the circumstances to exhibit them were never favourable. This changed while travelling when he came up with the idea of adding an extra dimension to his photography. While working on this new project it became apparent to him that he should present his work. After many months of intensive work, the first exhibitions were organized.
The project Karton (Cardboard) that began in 2012 is based on the question of what happens to photos when elements are removed and replaced with a carrier- in this case a cardboard. From his previous work, Pascal Kehl had a large supply of cardboard that was originally used as cutting board. This lead to a creative „recycling“ project for his new pictures. Which interpreted in an innovative way the Swiss traditional paper cutting technique known as Scherenschnitt. In contrast to a collage, elements were not added from the photographs but removed, resulting in a layered work. Foreground and background blend together melting into a new picture that has a three dimensional aspect. The resulting illustration should inspire the viewer to see the picture with a fresh perspective."
