Looking back on past projects, exhibitions and spatial installations from the last 10 years, Artstübli – Art & Culture is launching various exhibition of works by these artists from its own portfolio.

With "Fragile", Simon Berger and Vierwind explore the theme of fragility. The hammer blows of the one and the dynamic brushstrokes of the other are gestures characterized by strength. Starting from a center, the movement always radiates outwards, but with a different effect. While the glass splinters are sharp edges, Vierwind's strokes show rounder and softer forms.

The theme of fragility is expressed in Simon Berger's works through the transparency of the glass. Human vulnerability is also present in the works of both artists, with an emphasis on sensitivity and the cultural, linguistic and graphic connections between them.

An exhibition that invites you to view the works, to see and understand the ultimate tension of the material. The ingenious play of strength and balance can be seen in each of her compositions, pointing us to our own fragility while allowing us to perceive the complexity of life.

The carpet and wall colors will be taken from Nici Jost’s pink room installation "From West to East to Space" and a supporting program will be created from May till end of June to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the former gallery and the current art and culture space Artstübli. An accompanying bar with exclusively created seating furniture by the Basel artist duo Pascal Martinoli and Filip Wolfensberger will contribute to the quality of stay and lingering in the interior and exterior space. Welcome:)

Simon Berger

Contemporary glass artist Simon Berger speaks a singular plastic language by exploring the depth of his material, the glass that he pounds, or cracks with a hammer. The window becomes the support of an expansion done by impacts playing with transparency. The closer and briefer the blows, the stronger the contrasts and the shades. In his hands, the hammer is not a tool of destruction, but rather an amplifier of effects. Berger began his artistic explorations with spray can before turning to other mediums. A carpenter by training, his natural attraction to wood inspired him his first creations out of the street. A lover of mechanics, he also spent plenty of time working on car carcasses. It was while pondering about what to do with a car windshield that his art was born. “Human faces have always fascinated me”, explained Simon. “On safety glass, these motifs come into their own and magically attract visitors. It is a discovery from abstract fogging to figurative perception.”

Simon Berger was born on April 9, 1976, grew up in Herzogenbuchsee (Switzerland). Lives and works now in his own studio in Niederönz.

Micha Häni aka Vierwind

Born and raised in Bern in 1994, has been working full-time as an artist since 2016. Vierwind has created art for the Swiss government, for musicians such as Stress, Xzibit, The Outlawz (Tupac Shakur's crew) and has also worked with fashion brands such as Hugo Boss. Graffiti tags and street art shaped his artistic career early on. Traces of this can still be seen in his work today. Vierwind has been using the keyhole since his first works - it has become his trademark. Fonts, which he has been developing for many years, have always been a central element of his work. Today, he combines type and motif in an unmistakable way and exhibits his works worldwide.
