Basel-based Janik Bürgin (1994) completed his training as a photographer in Zurich. He was already able to present his works at Art Basel in 2021. In his work, he deals intensively with the experiment between colors and perspectives. For him, art must trigger emotions; he wants to touch people in a positive way. He works with strong enlargements and shrill colors. What stands out in his work is that each print is unique. This means that there is only one print of each motif (not even an artist's proof or an archive print). The artist thus opposes the classic reproducibility of the medium, refines his pictures exclusively and equates his photographic prints with a unique piece of art. His works are colorful, radiant images in which the viewer can completely let go.

In his work between 2019 and 2023, he focused on the tension between painting and photography. In a world where 1.6 trillion photos are taken every year, people have clear ideas about what a photograph should and should not represent. It was important for him to explore the limits of photographic possibilities. This resulted in three series, which were shown at Art Basel, PhotoBasel, Galerie Urs Meile, Die Mobiliar, Kunsthalle Palazzo and among others, and found their way into public collections, including the Swiss National Bank.
